Fellow Yapese, Siro Ma Mogethin!
First and foremost, we would like to the thank the great Lord above for giving us this opportunity to reach out to you fellow Yapese to inform you of our declaration of our joint candidacy for the up-coming general election on November 6, 2018 and also to give the Lord praise in thanksgiving for allowing us to serve you during the past four years with all our energy and efforts.
Secondly, we would like to express our utmost appreciation to the the great people of our State from the grass root and community levels, private sector and public sector for also allowing us the opportunity not only to serve you but to navigate our journey for the past four years. Your tireless efforts, contributions and undivided support during the past four years are immensely appreciated and as we are all together on this journey toward self-sufficiency with milestones accomplishments that we all must take credits for, we once again submit our humble entreaty to you to please allow us the next four years to continue to serve you and navigate this true course for our journey.
For the past four years, we are acutely humbled humbled by the awareness of the awesomeness of the responsibility to serve and take the lead in charting our path forward, was we realized that the mantle for effective governance cannot be carried by one or two persons alone but the converge our leaders at all branches to a common cause in fulfilling our people’s hope. We have been doing that even if there are disagreements amongst us members of the State Leadership, we still join hands at the end of the benefit of our people that we represent.
As we continue to work with you in navigating the charted true course of our journey, we would like to begin by stating that fellow Yapese, OUR MINDS MUST BE FOCUSED ON THE FACT THAT CHANGES IS NOT WHAT WE WANT BUT WHAT WE NEED YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW, WHILE WE EMBRACE THE CHANGE BY HOLDING OUR PAST WHOLEHEARTEDLY AND LEADING A STEADFAST FUTURE RESPECTING AND PRESERVING OUR YAPESE TRADITION AND UNIQUE CULTURE.
As we humbly request your support, we must begin with a look at the trails of our past and our track records as well as accomplishments before and during the four years that we have been given the opportunity to serve you. We would like to highlight our factual achievements on the realistic plans, which we have put in place since the installation of this Administration, as to continue moving our State forward in line with all in our Federation, in the region and at the global level.
We strongly believe that at this juncture, we (our State) have already boarded the train with everybody else in our Federation and it is very critical that we continue riding the train to complete our charted journey to our final destination because if we disembark now, we (our State) will be falling way far behind everyone else. As one says, “you can plan all you want and articulate your plan with rhetoric and hyperboles, but if you do not have a realistic well-crafted plan and roadmap with strategic goals and objectives of how you implement it to realize practical results and measurable achievements, you are not getting anywhere.” In other words, we can talk politics all we want but if they are with no substance and with not good policies our state will not get anywhere. Good policies always make good politics but good politics do not always make good policies!
Since we have limitations as human beings, we have had our failures due to given circumstances for which we try immediately to bring resolutions to and milestone accomplishments as well; however, we wholeheartedly believe that with your continued support, our sister states leadership and National Government Leadership, we can finish our charted journey together.
We all know the fact that what we require to meet our needs today are as different as the time then in the olden days and now in the globalized and interdependent economy that has reached our shores, money is indispensable. Our Government needs money to function so as to provide better healthcare, better education, build and maintain key infrastructures, ensure a system of law and order and provide other basic services. By 2023 our government must have in place, the means by which, to fund its operation on its own, not just for few more years but permanently. Similarly, our families need money to secure the necessities of our daily lives to pay medical bills, the costs of transportation to and from schools for our children, electricity, running water, food supplies and the fuel for cars and cooking. This shows that money has become a pervading necessity in our daily public and individual lives as the stark reality is that we are reliant on others for financial assistance such as our bilateral and donor partners through what is known as the Overseas Development Assistance (ODA). It is very important that we do maintain this amicable relationship which we have now with our partners, allies and friends.
As the dawn of each day takes us closer and closer to 2023, the end of the Financial Provisions of our Amendded Compact Treaty with the United States, we must remind ourselves of one basic truth that Foreign Assistance is NOT going to be perpetual, nor do we want ourselves as people to be a perpetual ward to others. We must move ourselves forward to a point where we are less reliant on others for financial assistance and ensure…
