Do we still have doubts about our world flooding? The Ice on the poles melting? Our Micronesia Sinking? What the heck? Do we still think that the droughts and deathly weather across the US has nothing to do with Global Warming? What else is going to happen before our Repub friends, both in Micronesia and in the US finally wake up to reality?
Several Years back, the Bush Administration abandons the Kyoto Protocol saying it was not in the best interest of the United States and is not going to do anything. Remember that? I was watching that bald headed white house spokesman said it and it broke my heart knowing full well that it’s a decision that can have a humongous ramifications for our tiny islands. But guess what happened?
The Bush Administration was so busy with stupid wars and giving tax breaks to billionares that the United States’ economy dove into recession. Remember that? I remembered it too well, both under the two bushes, the economy dove to unbelievable levels.
President Obama is doing all he could to move the economy back to where it should be but with all that damage done under Bush, and the continual righty filibuster stupids, it will take a while. But there was something good out of all of that for our tiny islands in terms of pollution.
According to the US Energy information Administration, in 2012, during all that economic turmoil, carbon dioxide emission from the US reached its lowest level. Some thinks it’s because of the economy but who knows.
Our Micronesia cannot control what others can and cannot do, but we can definitely control what we do. What can the FSM or Micronesian Islands do to prepare for an eventual sink? Do we have any plans in place? If so, what are they?
Lots of our people are already in other places on this planet. I am blogging from Seattle, Tony from Kolonia is serving clients at a restaurant in New York city, Thomas is handing out leaflets in Tumon, MJ is fbing from Kagoshima, Mori is hunting Taliban in Afhganistan, and who knows what other Micros are doing in their part of the globe. Most if not many are already settling in, in their own houses and awesome careers. So in the case where our Micro is no more, at least we have our genes out some where higher. :).
Is there anything we can do on our small islands to lengthen the existence of our beautiful islands? How about we start by ban burning? Everything must be buried, starting this moment! This will help raise our islands because the trash or leftovers will become part of the land instead of going up in smoke and help destroy our planet. What you think?
We should even collect everything that floats to the shores of our island be buried on land to add to the land mass. This is a small but I am sure it will at least add inch by inch to the height of our islands. Or we just do nothing. Which is better? Hehe. Someone needs to get to work and lay out those laws now.
How about taking all that Compact Money and buy up lands for relocation purposes? Can a deal be made with any government to let us buy acres of lands and name it the Remote Federated States of Micronesia(RFSM)? Maybe our government can buy an area in Alaska for relocation. The weather should be warmed up enough by the time relocation is needed.
I may have fun with this issue but it’s a very important one and has to be dealt with soon so that our people don’t have to face the consequences of inaction. I am not sure if there are things that our government has put in place but it would be nice to know. I urge those of you back in Micronesia to share if there are measures in place to deal with this issue. All I know is that we are part/member of the Kyoto Protocol. Shouldn’t we be doing more than that?
